Favorite College Memory: Black Cat freshman year has to be my favorite memory. Black Cat is a big tradition at Agnes Scott. Think of it as a homecoming for an all-girls school. It was originally established by a nurse in the 1920's to stop Freshman hazing. Now it is a heated rivalry between classes. Every class has a color (Red, Green, Blue, or Yellow). It is the freshman's job to pick a mascot for their year and hide it from the sophomore (their rivals). They always find out though. My class is the "Queen of Hearts". I think what made that Black Cat so special is we had all the enthusiasm of First Years. Granted we were also walking around aimlessly, but it was fun...even if we lost most events. The whole event reaches a peak on Friday night where the Junior class performs a satire about Agnes Scott and finally capped off by the Black Cat Formal, which is held at a nice hotel. (And yes, guys are invited!)

Questions

What do you want to do after college? I'm hoping to get a job in some sort of Public Relations field. Originally I wanted to do Sports PR, but right now that isn't my priority. Who knows I still may end up doing it. Another option if I can't find a job in PR might be to work for a college in their Admissions Office...at least I would get to travel a lot.
What do you regret most in your life? I think it is hard to say I truely regret anything. Sure there are things I wish didn't happen, but those things have also help contribute to who I am today. I have changed so much since HS; it is amazing. All the little "failures" have definately had an impact, but I needed them.
If you could could back and live in a different time period, what would it be? Oh, that is tough. I love studying the Civil War, but I dont think I woudl want to live in that time period. Life was so rough. I think there are many periods which I would love to visit, but not live, like the Revolutionary War, Puritan New England, Vienna in it's peak, Russia under the Tzar. If I absolutely had to choose a period to live though it would be in the time and life style of Jane Austen.
What is your favorite childhood experience? Summer Camp. It had such a huge impact on me. I started going to Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in 5th grade. Before then I had gone to some Girl Scout Camps and Day camps. But BLFAC was special. We had to wear these awful uniforms that I now love- Baby Blue Polos and navy bottoms..oh and name tags. It was a music camp, but oh so much more. We did the normal camps stuff like swimming, arts and crafts, hiking. I made a ton of friends there and some enemies. It really kinda seasoned me to the real world. Then in 10th grade I joined their Internation Youth Symphony Orchestra, where we tour the great concert halls of Europe. I made so many memories and met so many amazing people, who still stay in my thoughts.
What do you look forward to most in life? Im ready to get out of college and moving on in my life. Start getting settled in the real world. As much as I love Agnes Scott, it still shelters you a lot, more than other colleges I think. I want to know what it is like to be an "adult"- having the full time job, figuring out finances, etc. It is scary, but so exciting. I also look forward to starting a family. I wouldnt dream of having kids till I was at least 27, but I think being 36 and raising my kids with husband will be a nice life. Taking my kids to hockey lessons, music lessons, camp...all that will be very fullfilling. But once again..not for ages and ages!
How do you picture your wedding and honeymoon? I guess like most girls, I have casually thought about this with my friends. I picture a small wedding.. I dont want everyone in the world invited. Just my friends and family. I might opt for an outdoor garden wedding. When I lived in Fremont, Ohio, President Hayes' home was across the street from mine and he had these amazing rose gardens. Every year several weddings took place there and I thought it would be grand. As for a minister, I think I might like it if my great uncle Harold performed the wedding or perhaps my mother's cousin Joe who teaches at Toccoa Falls College. And then the honeymoon. I think a nice thing might be a honeymoon cruise becasue you get to see lots of things, but have a beautiful ship, great meals, and entertainment. But I know one thing for sure, I dont want the typical honeymoon of Hawaii.
